Friday, May 31, 2024 | Indiana, PA - The Indiana baseball team has qualified for the 2024 4A PIAA Baseball Championship Tournament for the second year in a row. Notably, last year's qualifying team was the first Indiana team to qualify for the tournament in 23 years. The Indians earned the second spot coming out of District 7 due to finishing as runner-up in the District 7 tournament, falling in the championship game to #6 seeded North Catholic 7-5. Indiana had quite the journey getting to the championship game, being seeded #9, Indiana took care of business against (#8) Central Valley with a score of 4-1. Indiana was then tasked with a match up with (#16) Blackhawk in which they triumphed by a score of 5-0, propelling them to the WPIAL semifinals. In the semifinal match up, they would defeat last year's third place finisher (#4) Montour with a score of 11-0 (5 innings). Indiana, now secured in their first WPIAL Championship Game of program history, would face off against familiar section foe in (#6) North Catholic. Indiana shot out to a quick 5-1 lead through four innings, thanks in part to strong pitching from
Greg Minnick, an RBI single from
Hunter Martin,
Tim Birch with an RBI single,
Ben Ryan hitting a monstrous solo shot and
Charlie Manzi hitting a two-run rocket over the left field fence but ultimately was unable to hold strong, dropping the game by a score of 7-5, cementing them as the second place finishers out of District 7.
