Monday, May 22, 2023 | Harmony, PA - Monday night's baseball game against Blackhawk proved to be one for the history books for Indiana. The 4-1 win over Blackhawk propels the Indians into the WPIAL semifinals, a place they were last in back in May of the year 2000 when they faced off against North Allegheny and lost. 23 years later, the Indians will now face off against (#14) Hopewell, who defeated fellow WPIAL 4A Section 4 rival (#14) North Catholic by a score of 6-2 in the matchup prior to Indiana's. The game will once again be played at neutral site Seneca Valley High School located at
128 Seneca School Road, Harmony PA,16037 today (5/23) at 4:00 PM.
Indiana started off slow, but a two-run 5th and 6th inning would help the Indians take the lead and with strong defensive efforts and Indiana's
Gavin Homer on the mound, the Indians would keep that lead safe. Homer went the distance, scattering seven hits, allowing one run and striking out four Cougars.
Steven Budash and
Gavin Homer supplied the offense for the Indians. Budash went 2-2 at the dish, with a single and a double off the fence along with an RBI. Homer had the key hit in the game that broke the scoring drought for Indiana. Bases loaded with two outs, Homer worked a 3-0 count on Blackhawk's starter. The pitcher worked back to a full count and then fired four straight pitches all which Homer fouled off. The intensity was building in the environment before Homer pulled the next pitch down the inside of the third base line for a 2-run double.
Kadin Homer also had an RBI for the Indians.
Ben Ryan,
Michael Tortorella,
Garrison Dougherty,
Andrew McGee and
Trevor Smith all played lockdown defense for the Indians.
