Tuesday, April 4, 2023 | Indiana, PA - The Indiana varsity baseball team dropped Monday's contest against Kiski Area by a score of 5-1. This was Indiana's first taste of section play. Indiana only amassed three hits on the day, while Kiski Area's Smith whiffed 10 Indiana hitters in his complete game outing. Freshman
Charlie Manzi threw three scoreless innings in relief for the Indians.
Indiana then took Tuesday's game by a score of 8-3. Indiana broke the offensive struggles they've been enduring, scoring eight runs on the evening, more than the previous three games combined. The Indians scored 7 runs in the 6th inning to overcome the Cavaliers. Highlights from the game included
Ben Ryan's two-run blast in the bottom of the 6th inning to tie the game up, followed by a
Gavin Homer RBI single later in the inning. Five different Indians had hits on the evening including
Gavin Homer (1 RBI),
Ben Ryan (2 hits, 1 HR, 2 RBIs),
Steven Budash (2 doubles),
Nick Love (2 singles, 2 RBIs) &
Garrison Dougherty (1 RBI, 2 SB).
Ryan Okopal started the game on the mound for the Indians. He went five strong innings, allowing two unearned runs, walking two batters and striking out five.
Connor Geesey picked up the win for the Indians after pitching two innings in relief, giving up one run and striking out two.
JV Results
Indiana JV baseball was victorious on Monday night, beating the Cavaliers by a score of 5-4. The Indians fell behind 4-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but strung together five hits, including three doubles, for the 5-4 lead. Derek Miller drilled a two-strike pitch for a single to centerfield to start the rally, before Rocco Cosentino, Mark Collinger, and Jacob Sexton ripped doubles to set up a clutch single by Sully VanHoose. All of the Indian's runs were scored with two outs in the inning. Mike Zimmerman earned the win, throwing just one pitch for a pop-up to the catcher. Jon Cribbs gave up one run in relief of starter Collinger, and VanHoose picked up the save by throwing a scoreless seventh inning and striking out the final Kiski Area Hitter. Sexton, VanHoose & Tuscan Blystone smacked two hits apiece as part of a 10-hit day for Indiana.
On Tuesday, the Indians won 10-7 in extra innings. With two outs in the top of the 8th inning, Tim Birch homered and Mark Collinger's triple brought in Rocco Cosentino for a 7-5 Indiana lead. Kiski scored two unearned in the bottom half to force a ninth inning, but the Indians responded with three runs, including two off a Tuscan Blystone triple and an RBI single from Birch. Blystone finished with three hits, four RBIs and a run scored.
Caden Force struck out eight Kiski batters in relief.
