Friday, September 2 | Indiana, PA - "It's like it's Friday the 13th out here!" is a statement that was made by our PA Announcer & Former Athletic Director, Pat Snyder. Friday night's football game against Knoch was certainly out of the ordinary, and one that will go down in the history books for years to come as the Indians came out victorious, 32-31.
Head coach
Brad Wright had this to say after the game, "This was one of the most exciting games I've been a part of. These kids don't quit. When their backs are against the wall, they keep fighting. This was a well-rounded victory."
The Indians played a solid first quarter, but were blanketed on the offensive side of the ball, not putting up any points. Early on, the offensive line, led by
Benjamin Cochran,
Adam Clark,
Alek Clark and
Carson Beatty, controlled the line of scrimmage with quarterback
Trevor Smith and running back
Garrison Dougherty marching the ball down the field until Indiana came up short and turned the ball over in the red zone with a fumble.
The second quarter started with Knoch putting up 13 unanswered points. The Knoch defense then managed a defensive touchdown with a strip sack on
Trevor Smith that was scooped up for a touchdown. On the ensuing kick-off,
Evan Brocious had a 70-yard return and the momentum began to swing in Indiana's favor.Â
Rocco Cosentino rushed for a TD from six yards out, and with 24 seconds left in the first half,
Trevor Smith connected with
James Mill for a game-tying 82-yard touchdown pass, the fourth longest touchdown pass in program history.
In the second half, the momentum swung back in Knoch's favor when they blocked Indiana's field goal attempt in the third quarter. Knoch's offense then highlighted with 80-yard touchdown pass to take a 19-13 lead. Later in the fourth quarter, Indiana's special teams came up big when Knoch muffed a punt return and was recovered by Indiana's
Evan Brocious.Â
Trevor Smith tied the game with a nine-yard touchdown run, but Indiana was unable to secure the PAT.
  Â
Overtime was intense and ensured that the game would be memorable.
Each team gets a four play possession at the opposing team's ten yard line for an opportunity to score. Indiana and Knoch each scored twice, both Indiana scores came on hard fought rushing touchdowns by
Liam McFarlane from 2 & 6 yards out, but it all came down to the leg of
Tristan Redinger for the win. Redinger, who plays soccer for Indiana, was 1 for 3 going into that extra point attempt before he sent one through the uprights, securing the double overtime victory for the Indians.
The Indians out gained the Knights in total yardage 441-244 on the night with 249 coming from the rushing game.Â
