Friday, September 9, 2022 | Pittsburgh, PA - Indiana wins in dramatic fashion for the second week in a row against a tough Shady Side Academy team. Indiana was down 13-7 at halftime and found themselves trailing 22-20 for the final drive of the game. The Indians marched the ball down the field and last week's hero,
Tristan Redinger, nailed a field goal as time expired to give Indiana the 23-22 victory.
First year head coach,
Brad Wright, "This is an amazing group of kids. They really executed in crunch time and stuck to our game plan. The offensive line played extremely physical tonight. Our O-line seemed like they were in beast mode."
Garrison Dougherty set the tone early & often for Indiana behind his strong offensive line made up of the Clark brothers (
Adam and
Alek),
Benjamin Cochran,
Mason Fisher and
Carson Beatty. Senior
Liam McFarlane capped off the opening drive with a 5-yard touchdown run. Shady Side Academy took control of the second quarter. The Bulldogs scored twice while overcoming penalties on offense and defense. The Bulldogs were penalized 13 times for 85 yards in the game. The second half ended with a sack of Indiana's QB,
Trevor Smith, followed by an interception.
Shady Side Academy had the momentum coming out of halftime, until the laundry started to get scattered along the field as both teams traded penalties. Coming in key for the Indiana defense in the second half was Junior LB,
Isaac Nygren. He was playing with a 'man on fire' mentality and was constantly in the backfield or disrupting plays. The Bulldogs gave the ball back to the Indians with less than four minutes left in the game, as Indiana methodically marched the ball down the field securing key third and fourth down conversions, with WR
Anthony Kowchuck playing an important role.
Indiana lined up for the 25-yard try as the clock was winding due to having used all of their timeouts, the clock had just hit 00:00 as the ball was snapped,
Tristan Redinger's kick was up and ultimately through the uprights, and the Indians began to celebrate on the field, but after further review, the Bulldogs had called a timeout at the last second in an attempt to 'ice' the kicker and the points were taken back.
Redinger had to line up again and attempt to execute the field goal with the game on the line, ultimately sending the ball right through the uprights as the Indians stormed the field in a deja vu like manner. For a second time, and the second week in a row, the Indians came from behind for a last second victory.
Next up for Indiana is an away matchup Friday against the Mars Fightin' Planets.
