Monday, May 12, 2025 | Irwin, PA - The Indiana softball team faced a familiar foe in Uniontown on Monday in the first round of the WPIAL 4A Softball Championships. This was the second meeting between the two teams, the first being a 2-0 victory from the Red Raiders early on in the season in late March.
This time Indiana was able to put together a 3-2 victory, despite being behind Uniontown in the hits column. Indiana managed just three hits on the day to Uniontown's six, costly errors, timely hits & precise base running would prove to be the difference maker for the Indians on the offensive side.
Sophia Boyer broke the scoring drought in the bottom of the second inning when she grounded a ball to the shortstop with a runner on third and less than two outs. The shortstop came up firing to first base and
Anna Carnovale was able to sprint home. Uniontown would go on to score a run to tie the ballgame in the top of the fourth inning. Indiana would answer with a two run bottom half of the fourth when
Maggie Cunningham would single in
Addie Stossel and the next batter
Anna Carnovale singled in Cunningham to take the score to 3-1. Uniontown would then score their last run in the top half of the fifth inning.
On the defensive side, Indiana was air tight having no errors committed behind
Samantha Martin's arm. Martin would go the length of the game, scattering six hits, allowing two runs, walking two batters and striking out 12 from the circle.
