Thursday, May 9, 2024 | Indiana, PA - The Indiana girls' lacrosse team completed their section play on Tuesday when they defeated Greensburg Central Catholic with a score of 17-3. Their perfect section play (11-0) marks the
SIXTH team of the 2023-24 school year to do so, joining the likes of girls' tennis, boys' tennis, girls' swimming & diving, boys' swimming & diving and most recently the Indiana softball team. The section championship marks the FIRST time it has been done in Indiana lacrosse history. A historic season for these ladies, most recent and notably defeating strong powerhouse Penn Trafford in a come from behind victory with a score of 6-5 to seal the section championship.
Indiana draws the #2 seed (the highest they have ever been for the tournament) and will receive a first-round bye. Indiana will then face the winner of #7 South Fayette vs. #10 Franklin Regional. South Fayette boasted a 11-6 record overall (8-3 in section) while outscoring their opponents 223-144 on the year. Franklin Regional, a familiar face in the section finished the year with a 9-6 overall record (7-4 in section) while outscoring opponents 152-101 on the season. Indiana defeated Franklin Regional by a score of 12-4 when they met back in March.
Indiana is very senior heavy on the year, but don't count out the underclassmen who have stepped up to round out the roster. Senior
Kyla Weaver leads Indiana on the year with 49 goals and 25 assists. Senior
Gianna Brody follows with 37 goals and 10 assists. Senior
Kate Lehman has 30 goals, eight assists and 84 draw controls on the season. Senior
Kayla Leon has 17 goals and 15 assists on the season.
Brynlee Schawl has 14 goals with seven assists.
Tess Kuzneski has 12 goals with eight assists. Junior
Lucia Clark leads the ground ball total with 28 on the season followed by Lehman with 24,
Anna Buterbaugh with 20,
Addie Lockard with 19,
Laken Kugler with 18, Brody with 16 and Schawl with 12. In the net, senior
Anna Buterbaugh boasts a near even goals allowed to saves ratio with letting in 74 goals on the season while saving 71.

The game will be played on 5/16 at 4:00 PM. The game is moved up from the general time of 7:00 PM to accommodate the Indiana Area Senior Awards Ceremony.
