Two Indiana Track & Field Student-Athletes Qualify for State Championship Meet; Weber Takes Home Gold

Wednesday, May 17, 2023 | Slippery Rock, PA - Charlie Weber and Jon Berzonsky both qualified for the PIAA 3A State Championship meet in Shippensburg, PA with their performances from yesterday's WPIAL Championships meet. Weber qualified in the pole vault and took home the gold medal in the 3A WPIAL meet with a height of 14'6. In checking the history books, Weber is the first pole vaulter to win a WPIAL Championship for Indiana since Kristen Moreau accomplished the feat in 2004. Weber is however, the first boy in the Indiana history books to achieve the honor.

Jon Berzonsky qualified as well after running his best time in the 800 meter race. A time of 1:56.66 was good enough to come under the qualifying standard of 1:57.00. Berzonsky finished fifth on the day in a field full of strong runners.
