Tuesday, March 28, 2023 | Greensburg, PA - The Indiana track and field teams opened up their seasons with victories Tuesday afternoon at Greensburg Salem. Abbie Huey led the way for the girls, winning three individual events on the day as the team won by a score of 97-53. Huey set a school record in winning the 100 meters with a time of 12.26. She also collected wins in the 200 meters (25.92) and the 400 meters (1:02.24). Katie Kovalchick also had a strong day winning both the discus (85-5) and shot put (30-1). On the track Emmy Davis won both the 1600 meters (6:00.63) and 3200 meters (13:08.29). Other individual event winners included Cadance Ullman in high jump (4-10), Alexa Wheeler in pole vault (8-0), Addie Fry 800 meters (2:37.26), and Taylor Wood in javelin (96-11).
The girls also swept the relay events with the following times:
4x800 (Davis, Fry, Rachel Gill and Jocelyn Higbee) 10:43.08
4x400 (Fry, Ullman, Kate Mill, and Jillian Ranes) 4:28.34
4x100 (Mill, Ullman, Ranes, Ali Genchur) 54.26
For the boys Stanford Webb led the team with two individual wins as the team won 79-71. Webb won both the long jump (20-11) and high jump (6-0). Other individual winners included Charlie Weber in the pole vault (13-0), Levi Porter in the triple jump (42-8), Jacob Killeen 300 hurdles (44.85), Jon Berzonsky 800 meters (2:09.29), and Will Berzonsky in the 400 meters (53.77). The boys also swept the relays with the following performances:
4x800 relay (J. Berzonsky, W. Berzonsky, Jaiden Myers, and Brennon Huff) 10:00.19
4x400 relay (J Berzonsky, W. Berzonsky, Killeen, and Jacob Gill) 3:44.88
4x100 relay (Webb, Gill, Killeen, and Alvin Liu) 46.63.
Both teams start the season 1-0 in the section.
