Tuesday, September 16, 2025 | Penn Hills Township, PA - On Tuesday,
Julia Antonacci and
Laken Kugler represented the IHS Girls' Varsity golf team at the 18-hole sectional individual qualifier which took place at 3 Lakes Golf Course. They represented IHS very well as they hit a few personal bests. Second-year player,
Laken Kugler (senior), opened her round by hitting a 47 on the front 9 (a personal 9-hole best), putting her in contention to hit the qualifying target score of a 91. She played well throughout the round, but unfortunately had a couple tough holes late, that led to a score of 55 on the back nine, dropping her out of contention... but nonetheless a well-played round.
Julia Antonacci, a rookie senior, had a reversal of fortunes though. She hit a 51 on the front nine. Knowing that she needed a personal best of 40 or less on the back nine, she didn't give up. She took charge and played excellent golf. She worked her round to a point where she got to the par 5, 18th hole, and needed to hit a par to earn a score of 40 on the back, and to qualify. She did not cower. She locked in and put the ball on the green in 2 shots, and then 2-putted for a birdie, to not only qualify to the next round, but to also total a personal-best 9-hole score of a 39 (90 overall). Julia will join seven other girls from AAA Section 1 in advancing to the WPIAL Championships held at Seven Oaks CC. Well done girls! Good luck to Julia as she continues on to the individual championship next week.
