Monday, January 15, 2023 | Pittsburgh, PA - The Indiana girls' basketball team traveled to Plum High School on Tuesday to take on the Mustangs. In a very competitive and back and forth game between the two powerhouses in the WPIAL 5A Section 1 division, Indiana came out on top by a score of 41-36, putting them in sole possession of the section as they now control their own destiny the rest of the way.
Senior leadership proved to be huge on Monday night as the Little Indians traveled on the road to Plum to fight to hold on to 1st place in WPIAL 5A Section 1, as
Bella Antonacci and
Cassie Boyer combined for 30 points on the evening to lead the Little Indians to victory. It started as a low scoring, defensive affair for the first 3 quarters that saw Indiana trail 24-18 through three, but it didn't take long for Indiana to explode in the 4th. The 4th quarter saw Indiana make play after play on both offense and defense, while also continuing to dominate the rebound battle in the contest's most crucial moments. Key moments in the game's final minutes included the 1st 3-pointer of the evening going down for Indiana, when
Julia Antonacci dribbled into a game-tying 3-point shot. Indiana had to continue to battle though, as Plum went on a 5-0 run that could've proven to be decisive, but the Little Indians responded with a 5-0 run of their own that was capped out by a
Bella Antonacci 3-pointer to tie the game yet again. The Little Indian's next shot was the one that catapulted them ahead for good, as
Julia Antonacci stepped up again and knocked down a huge 3-pointer to vault Indiana into a 37-36 lead with 1:21 to play. From that point forward,
Cassie Boyer ripped down crucial rebounds and went 4 for 4 from the charity stripe to cement the game and secure Indiana's 41-36 win. Indiana improved their record to 11-2 overall and 6-0 in section play.
