Wednesday, May 10, 2023 | Indiana, PA - Stop me if you've heard this before, Indiana Rugby is making a push in the State Championship Playoffs. The Warriors defeated a very tough Pittsburgh Central Catholic team last weekend by a score of 14-10 but they didn't get out of the matchup unscathed. The nickname Warriors is very fitting for this team with all of the battles and adversity they've had to overcome this year, including gruesome injuries to key players on the team while still maintaining a perfect record of 5-0 in the process.
Head Coach Zubin Billimoria had this to say, "We're very proud of the program we have built and I don't want their accomplishments to go unnoticed." The accomplishments Coach Billimoria is referring to is being the only team in Pennsylvania to have made the State Playoff Semifinals in each of the last three years, while also hoisting the enormous trophy in last year's State Playoffs. The Warriors will continue to battle adversity as they advance through the bracket.
Their next opponent is the Hempfield Knightmare out of Lancaster County, a team that upset the #3 seeded Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers last weekend. In fact, Indiana is the highest seed remaining in the Division 2 bracket with upsets happening in the three other games, notibly (8) St. Joes Prep over (1) Gregory the Great and (5) Downingtown over (4) Montgomery Bucks. Come out to Andy Kuzneski Field located at the Indiana Area High School as we host the Knightmare on Sunday, May 14 at 3:00 PM.
