Monday, January 16, 2023 | Indiana, PA - The entire evening on Monday night did not dissapoint, from the JV team getting out to an 11-0 lead and eventually winning 51-24, followed by Jr. high recognition night where we recognized the great seasons by our 7th & 8th grade girls basketball teams, followed by freshman girls' basketball player
Claire Stewart providing a new twist on the Star Spangled Banner with her cello, to
Katie Kovalchick and the Indiana Varsity team defeating section foe Plum handily by a score of 67-37. The game was Indiana's largest margin of victory on the year over any opponent with the previous margin set at 27 points against Knoch.
After a tight 1st quarter in which Indiana led narrowly 14-13, the Indians never looked back again leading 32-20 at the half and ultimately winning the game by a score of 67-37. Highlighting the scoring for the Indians was
Katie Kovalchick who notched a career high with 28 points while also going 13-15 shooting on the night. Kovalchick's previous career high was 24 points.
Eve Fiala continued her dominance inside the paint and notched her seventh double-double on the year compiling 12 points and 14 rebounds, her second highest rebound total on the year.
Bella Antonacci continued her hot streak by having 12 points of her own coupled by nine assists, her second highest assist total on the year, and five rebounds. Freshman guard
Jayla Peterson contributed eight points and five assists.
Indiana now stands at a 10-4 record overall and is 6-0 in the section, holding a two game lead over Franklin Regional as the Indians have completed the halfway point in their section play. The JV team defeated Plum 51-24 with
Emily Betsinger scoring 11 points, followed by
Stella Stossel,
Cassie Boyer, and
Sera Todd all scoring 8 points a piece.
Up next for the Indians is a home section matchup against Penn Hills scheduled for Thursday, January 19th at the Indiana High School. JV will tip off at 6 PM followed by Varsity at 7:30 PM.
