Saturday, December 3, 2022 | Indiana, PA - Both the boys' and girls' Indiana basketball teams finished second in the Indiana Tip-Off Tournament with Norwin winning the championship in the girls' bracket and Yough taking gold in the boys' bracket.
Girls' Basketball
Indiana started out the tournament by taking on a respected Bishop McCort opponent and ultimately winning by a score of 59-48. Leading the charge for the Indians was Katie Kovalchick with 19 points, followed by Eve Fiala with 14 of her own, and Freshman Jayla Peterson scoring the first 12 points of her Indiana career.
With Norwin thumping Marion Center, the stage was set for an Indiana vs. Norwin championship matchup.
The first half was seemingly all defense, where Norwin stippled the Indiana offense, only allowing 11 points. On the flip side, Indiana's defense also came to play holding the strong Norwin attack in check and only allowing 19 first half points. Norwin would pull away in the second half, scoring 28 points, mainly from turnovers and fast breaks leading to a final score of 47-28.. Leading the scoring for the Indians was Bella Antonacci and Cassie Boyer both with 9 points.
Boys' Basketball
Indiana boys' basketball game was fast out of the gate with a dominant win over the Marion Center Stingers with a score of 65-29. Leading the way for Indiana was Senior, Gavin Homer with 14 points, followed by Hunter Martin with 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and Jaden Petrovich who added nine points of his own.
The championship game included Indiana and Yough, with Yough coming off a dominant win over Purchase Line in the opening game.
Indiana opened up a little slow out of the gate, with Yough dominating in the post and from outside the key, seemingly out-muscling the Indians on the board as well, until a timeout and a posterizing put back dunk by Senior guard, Gavin Homer ignited the bench, the crowd, and the Indiana offense. Indiana stayed tough throughout the contest, only trailing by 8 at halftime, but the Yough perimiter game proved to be too much for the Indians in the second half. Yough came out on top by a score of 67-48. Leading scorers for the Indians were Gavin Homer (18) and Evan Brocious (14).
