Indiana Heads to Gateway for First Round of WPIAL 5A Basketball Championships; Preview

Monday, February 16, 2026 | Indiana, PA - The Indiana boys' basketball team finished their regular season with style, beating fellow section foe Shaler to essentially punch their ticket for the playoffs before then routing the Plum Mustangs. The brackets were announced on Monday (2/9) and Indiana will be the #12 seed out of the WPIAL 5A bracket. The Indians will travel to #5 seeded Gateway on Tuesday, February 17th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Please see more information below on the opponent.

The Opponent
The #5 Gateway Gators come into the tournament as the section champions from the WPIAL - Section 1 (5A). The overall record was 15-7 on the season with a 12-2 section record. The other teams that qualified for the WPIAL 5A Championships from their section is Franklin Regional, Penn Trafford, Laurel Highlands and Latrobe. Gateway averages 55 points per game and gives up 47.8 points per game. The Gators are led by senior guard Mykel Bruce-McCrommon who is having himself a year. The 6'7 senior averages 21.2 points per game. Jax Vovaris is another senior guard who averages 12.8 points per game.
