Thursday, January 25, 2024 | Vandergrift, PA - The Indiana boys' and girls' swimming & diving teams both entered Thursday night with an 8-0 record and particularly the girls' team wondering how they were going to come out victorious after finishing four spots behind the Cavaliers in last year's PIAA Swimming & Diving Championships, ultimately trailing by 11.5 points. The boys' on the other hand, finished one spot ahead of the Cavaliers in the PIAA Swimming & Diving Championships, beating them by five points.
The Indiana boys' team came in and took care of business early, defeated Kiski Area by a score of 123-56. The girls' on the other hand had to make it count each and every event. Ultimately coming down to the last couple events being the 100 Yd Breaststroke and the 400 Yd Freestyle Relay.
Peyton Scott took 1st in the 100 Yd Breaststroke securing six points for Indiana with
Gianna Bracken and
Hadley Long both rounding off the top five to secure three more points for Indiana. In the 400 Freestyle Relay, Indiana ultimately took 1st with a team of
Bella Donatelli, Lily Vello,
Emme Fry and
Sydney Anderson to beat Kiski by 1.5 seconds and secure eight more points. The second relay team of
Maddy Bauer,
Jasmin Uptegraph,
Leeza Major and
Morgan Grove finished 3rd to secure the final two points for Indiana. The girls won by a score of 96-89.
